Constitution to always protect Azerbaijan’s national interests – top official

The constitution, created by great Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev, will always protect the country's national interests, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, head of the Administration's Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov tweeted Nov. 12.
"Today, the most important task for Azerbaijan is to preserve the sovereignty and dynamic sustainable development, as it has been until now," he wrote.

The Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, adopted in 1995, was the first Constitution of the independent Azerbaijan.
After Azerbaijan gained its independence, there was a need for a new Constitution. A special commission was established upon Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev's instructions. The draft of the Constitution was submitted for the public discussion.
The first Constitution of the independent Azerbaijan was adopted during the referendum on November 12, 1995.
