Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 8
The decision of the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland about leaving the joint human rights work group in Azerbaijan showed that organization's true position in relation to Azerbaijan, Rauf Aliyev, Azerbaijani MP, told Trend Oct. 8.
He said this is another step taken on the part of the Council of Europe as part of the campaign to discredit Azerbaijan.
The MP stressed that if the CoE is really so much concerned about human rights, the structure should, in the first place, pay attention to what is happening within Europe, as well as in the Middle East.
"No one is concerned about the fate and basic human rights of hundreds of thousands of refugees, who came to Europe to escape civil wars and chaos that resulted from the contemplative position of European political institutions, including the Council of Europe," he said.
"The Council of Europe should first think about the rights of those people," Aliyev added.
