Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 18
The responsibility for the continuing tensions on the frontline lies entirely on the irresponsible and criminal leadership of Armenia, the press service of the Azerbaijani defense ministry told Trend Dec.18.
The activity of the enemy on the frontline is strongly suppressed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, the ministry said.
"In order to hide large human losses incurred by the Armenian army, the opposite side spreads false information about our losses," said the message. "We daily offer accurate information to public about the situation on the frontline and incurred losses."
The ministry of defense said that currently, the operational situation is under control of the Azerbaijani units.
"As long as armed forces of the criminal regime are not withdrawn from the occupied territories, we will continue to deliver crushing blows to the enemy positions," said the ministry.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
