Azerbaijan is for restoring peace, establishing ceasefire in the region and finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with the will of Syrian people, spokesperson of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev told Trend Feb.17.
Addressing the "Supporting Syria and the Region Conference" in London Feb. 4, President Ilham Aliyev expressed Azerbaijan's position on the Syrian crisis and emphasized the country's experience in dealing with the humanitarian catastrophe, according to Hajiyev.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March of 2011 which claimed the lives of over 220,000 people, according to the UN. Militants from various armed groups are confronting Syrian government troops. The "Islamic State" (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) and Jabhat al-Nusra are the most active terrorist groups.
