Negotiations between European Union and Azerbaijan on a new agreement will be concluded soon, said the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini at a joint news conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov following the meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council on Feb. 9.
She added that the meeting with Elmar Mamedyarov resumed the expansion of the intensified engagement of Azerbaijan and the European Union, including the negotiations in which the two sides made progress, as well as comprehensive new agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU.
“The visit of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev last year for sure represented a very important moment for the bilateral cooperation. I hope that these negotiations can be concluded soon. We have a lot of challenges to faces and a lot of opportunities to take. We also discussed the need for more regular, constructive exchanges in the field of security policy and we will also follow up on these ideas,” said Mogherini.
The EU High Representative stressed that Azerbaijan is an important partner of the European Union, which remains the largest foreign direct investor and trade partner of Azerbaijan.
