Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 26

By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:

Russia as the pivotal state of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will fully support the entry into the organization of such a strong partner and friend like Azerbaijan, which has proved its reliability, the Member of the Lower House of Parliament of the Russian Federation Dmitry Savelyev told Trend on the sidelines of the working session entitled “Disinformation Policy - a Threat to Stability in the Modern World” on Oct. 26 within the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

He noted that Azerbaijan is a state that is exerting influence on the stability and peaceful course of events in the region.

On the other hand, Savelyev noted that involvement of the CSTO into the process of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the bringing of its settlement up for the discussion on yet another platform would certainly have a positive effect on the negotiation process.

Touching upon the statements of Armenia about the unwillingness to admit Azerbaijan’s entry into the CSTO, the Russian MP stressed that Armenia adversely affects the stability of the CSTO organization itself.

Russia, Savelyev said, will stridently pursue the policy of Azerbaijan’s accession to the CSTO, if official Baku expresses a desire to join the organization.

The CSTO is a military-political alliance within the CIS, established on the basis of the Collective Security Treaty, signed in May 1992. The list of members of CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Armenia. The validity period of the treaty is extended every five years.

The VI International Humanitarian Forum the theme of which is “Shaping a New World and a New Humanity: Creativity and Human Development”, began its work in Baku Oct. 25. More than 580 people including 416 foreign guests from 86 countries and 24 international organizations participate in this two-day forum.
