SHUSHA, Azerbaijan, July 22. A research "The evolution of French colonialism: a political and constitutional study" written by renowned UN expert Carlyle Corbin (US) at the request of the Baku Initiative Group was presented at the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum, Trend reports.
The nearly 140-page research informs about the colonization of former and current French colonies - Vietnam, Algeria, New Caledonia, French Polynesia (Mao’hi Nui), Saint Martin, Saint Barthelemy, Mayotte (considered part of the Union of Comoros), Reunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana, as well as on France's current colonial policies.
The research, compiled based on international legal documents, lists the crimes committed by France and those being committed at present (ethnic cleansing, slave trade, repression, arrests and killings of the indigenous population, starvation deaths, etc.), non-compliance with UN resolutions, and widely mentions the political, military, strategic, and economic interests of France underlying these heinous acts.
Besides, the research particularly emphasized that in New Caledonia, the current processes are driven by French President Emmanuel Macron's desire to ignore the indigenous population's demands regarding the decolonization process and to forcibly advance his political colonial policy.
Moreover, the work mentioned that French officials unjustifiably link recent unrest in New Caledonia to the interference of foreign forces, particularly Azerbaijan, emphasizing that this aims to distract the international community from the justified demands of the local people - the Kanaks.
Meanwhile, the research will raise international public awareness of the actions of the French government in the colonies that contradict international law, drawing attention to the issue of colonialism.
The research is intended to be sent to the UN and its specialized agencies, as well as to the Non-Aligned Movement, the European Union, the African Union, the OSCE, and other international organizations.
The Second Shusha Global Media Forum is attended by 150 foreign guests from 49 countries, including news agencies from 34 countries, 12 international organizations and media entities, as well as 60 heads and representatives of Azerbaijani media.
