BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. The chairperson of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, met with a delegation led by the head of Pakistan's observation mission, the chairperson of Pakistan's Central Election Commission, Sultan Mohammad, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to observe the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary election, Trend reports.
Referring to the close friendship and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, Mazahir Panahov gave detailed information to the delegation on preparations for the September 1 election process.
Noting that there are currently more than 6 million eligible voters in Azerbaijan, Panahov mentioned that 990 candidates will compete in the election.
Informing that more than 6,000 polling stations are functioning throughout the country, the chairperson of the CEC emphasized that 54 polling stations are located in the territories liberated from occupation. Stressing the importance of the parliamentary election for the Azerbaijani people, Panahov stated that for the first time in 30 years, the election to the Azerbaijani Parliament will be held in the whole territory of the country.
Furthermore, it was noted that the preparation for the election has been carried out following the requirements of the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, and all conditions have been created for the comfortable voting of electors.
Underscoring that Pakistan is a friendly country to Azerbaijan and official Islamabad has always supported the territorial integrity of the country, Sultan Mohammad noted that the brotherly country of Azerbaijan is on the threshold of a significant day, the extraordinary parliamentary election.
“We are confident that this election will also be held in full compliance with the country's Electoral Code, transparently and fairly,” he pointed out.
The chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Pakistan also noted the high level of organization of preparations for the extraordinary parliamentary election in Azerbaijan and compliance of the electoral legislation with international standards.
