BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan invalidated the results from two polling stations following its today's meeting in response to a protest from Lankaran Rural Electoral District No. 78 candidate about the September 1 parliamentary election, the source at the CEC told Trend.
The CEC found vote counting anomalies at polling stations 28 and 32, which could affect election results. Thus, the commission annulled these stations' vote results. The proposal was put to a vote and received approval.
The CEC made it clear that tossing out the results from these two stations doesn’t throw a wrench in the overall results of the electoral district.
Seven people nominated their candidacies from this constituency (Anar Iskandarov, Tural Kazimli, Khoshbakht Rahimzade, Nasrulla Mammadov, Elchin Safarov, Tural Guluzade, and Azizkhan Azizov), and according to the voting results, Iskandarov became the MP.
To note, the snap parliamentary election was held in Azerbaijan on September 1.
A total of 112,749 local observers were registered, including over 65,000 representatives of political parties. There were 598 international observers from 51 organizations and 69 countries.
Among the 990 registered candidates, 305 represented 25 political parties, while 371 were party members but were not nominated by their parties. In total, 676 candidates were affiliated with political parties.
