A new project started in Azerbaijan’s second biggest city to raise the awareness of the population of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The project, Your Word, is the result of joint cooperation between and funding from the Central Election Commission (CEC), regional TV Alternativ and the U.S. non-governmental organization IREX. The entire scheme aims to raise the turnout during the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Many organizations, including executive bodies and the above structures, believe that it is very important to advocate the importance of elections in regions.
The first TV-debates вЂ" in the framework of the project вЂ" took place with the participation of CEC members, as well as local and international experts, representatives from the executive power of the Ganja city, heads of regional branches of political parties, media and NGO staff.
At the debates, there was provided plenty of information about the pros and cons of the existing provisions in the current Election Code, including the recording of the electoral roll, rights and tasks of voters, propaganda campaigns concerning the voters, preparation of election certificates, approval of observers, etc.
Similar TV-debates will be held twice a month, with corresponding exchange of opinions concerning the issues to be raised.
