The election bloc of lawyers, Parliament-2005, on July 6 held a roundtable dedicated to the analysis of the pre-election situation in the country.

Participants of the meeting discussed the ongoing developments and the situation concerning the existing provisions for the freedom of assembly, as well as addenda and alterations in the Election Code, the corresponding proposals by the bloc and the symbolism of the Parliament-2005.

Addressing the meeting, Annaghy Hajibayli, a bloc member, noted that in accordance with the existing legislation, the Parliament-2005 вЂ" as a union of lawyers вЂ" is not entitled to nominate candidates for the upcoming elections, scheduled for November 6.

Another member of the bloc, Muzaffar Bakhyshov delivered a report on the state of ensuring the right of the freedom of assembly.

He noted that the bloc keeps monitoring rallies, which are stages in the run up to the upcoming elections. He informed the audience of a number of violations (of the law) and incidents reported in march-meetings on May 21, June 4, 15, 18 and 25.

In respect of the symbolism of the bloc, the lawyers have agreed with the portrayal of the national flag of Azerbaijan above the inscription, Parliament-2005.
