AZERI PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN KAZAN

Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, arrived in Kazan to participate at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit, Trend reports referring to RIA Novosti. Farid Mukhametshin, the chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Republic, and Valeriy Loshinin, the first deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Aliyev at the airport.

Aliyev is expected to hold a meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Victor Yushenko within the CIS summit. The sides will discuss development of the bilateral cooperation, including in the oil and gas sphere.

The meeting will focus on supply of Azerbaijani energy resources to the European market using Ukraine’s transit opportunities. Agreement on designing of the document on cooperation in the oil and gas sphere was achieved during the visit of Boris Tarasuk, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Azerbaijan in May 2005.

Next round of peace negotiations on settling of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the level of presidents will be held on Saturday.
