600,000 NEW JOBS TO OPEN IN AZERBAIJAN BY 2008

A process of indexation and return of community deposits, left in the bank accounts since the Soviet period will start in Azerbaijan from 2006, Azerbaijani President said in a public meeting in Masally District, south Azerbaijan.

The President announced that by 2008 600,000 new jobs will open in Azerbaijan. From the last presidential elections in 2003 a total of 300,000 jobs opened in the Azerbaijan and the policy will continue in future. The head of state said that the construction of a new airport in Lankaran and commissioning of a module station in Astara were of paramount importance for the southern region.

Speaking on the state support to the development of entrepreneurship, Aliyev said that in 2006 400bn manats will be allocated for crediting small and medium business. The head of state called on the local authorities not to interfere to entrepreneurs’ affairs.

Touching upon the plans on increase of the minimal monthly salary rate in Azerbaijan to 150,000 manats (~$32), the President noted that it cannot ensure vital activities and will be increased in future. The exploration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline from 2006 in ensure additional revenues for the public budget and enable to increase salaries and pensions.

Aliyev visited the Heydar Aliyev Park and exhibition of local goods, as well as a new shopping center and brick manufacturing plant.
