“The U.S. State Department underlines importance of full implementation of the 25 October 2005 presidential decree on urgent measures related to preparations and holding of the parliamentary elections,” Sean Mccormack, the Spokesman of the U.S. State Department, said.

The free expression of the will of the people through elections such as those scheduled for November 6 “is vital to Azerbaijan's future and to a strengthened U.S.-Azerbaijani relationship,” he noted. According to Mccormack the forthcoming elections provides the Azerbaijani authorities an opportunity to hold elections up to international standards.

“The United States encourages the peaceful participation of all Azerbaijanis in the elections and urges full implementation of the 25 October 2005 presidential decree, including the points on freedom of assembly and noninterference of local authorities in the electoral process,” Mccormack stressed.
