Consultations with Azerbaijan on New Neighborhood Policy to start shortly вЂ" EU special envoy says

“We hope that Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) will soon start consultations under the New Neighborhood Program,” Heikki Talvitie, the EU’s special envoy on Southern Caucasus stated in Baku on Tuesday morning.

He noted that the key objective of the current visit was to discuss the future perspectives of the EU’s New Neighborhood Program, as well as programs under actions. “Azerbaijan is part of EU’s New Neighborhood Program and we hope to start shortly the consultations under the program with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia,” Talvitie noted.

Touching upon EU’s position on the results of parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, Talvitie said that during the elections there were some shortcomings. “However, there were observed some progress. Of course, they will be included in the follow up on the elections in Azerbaijan,” EU special envoy underlined. The improvements will be further taken into consideration in the preparations for democratic elections in Azerbaijan,” he underlined.
