US Amb calls to invest non-oil sector of Azerbaijan

“Azerbaijan has broad business opportunities and they will grow with the commencement of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export oil pipeline,” Reno Harnish, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated to a briefing held at the Washington Department of Commerce.

The diplomat invited the US businessmen to Azerbaijan, noting the attractiveness of the non-oil sector, including the agriculture, telecommunications, banking, health. In 2006 Azerbaijan will see unprecedented rise of the GDP and the country will gradually transit from a level of country with low incomes to medium. It all demonstrates speedy development of Azerbaijan, which will ensure the US economic
interests.

Besides, Harnish touched upon the difficulties with the provision of the superiority of the law in Azerbaijan, corruption in the public and private sectors, tax and customs messes. However, he assured that in such cases will be resolved if appropriate appeals are made to the Ministry of Economic Development and the US embassy.
