OIC summit starts in Mecca

The third irregular summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) started in Mecca on Wednesday. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev came to Al-Safa Palace to attend the opening of the Summit, Trend reports.

The head of state met with Saudi King, Abdulla ibn Al-Saud, who delivered welcoming remarks to the top meeting OPIC leaders.

Attending the event are heads of state and governments of 57 member-countries, as well as heads of some international organizations.

OIC was founded in Rabat, Morocco, in 1969 as a result of an international conference. Azerbaijan entered the organization in 1992.
