The European Union (EU) envoy for South Caucasus Heilli Talvitie met today with the oppositional leaders. The Musavat Party chairman Isa Gambar and the National Unity Movement leader Lala-Shovket Hadjiyeva took part in the meeting, Trend reports.
The subject of the meeting was the socio-political situation, democratic principles and human rights, cooperation between EU and Azerbaijan, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and other issues. Leaders of the opposition brought to the attention of Talvitie their views in regard to the latest parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
В"I suppose, the EU officials have not touched upon the process of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict settlement in detail. The plans are possibly kept in the background. We voiced our stance that the conflict is to be settled peacefully under the condition of the Azerbaijans territorial integrity. The conflict puts obstacles in the way of the Azerbaijans integration into EU. Both the authorities and the opposition are to carry out the work aimed at the countrys integration into EU and put the process in the focus of their attention, Lala-Shovket Hadjiyeva noted.
