Baku supports the expansion of GUAM, a regional organization among Georgia, Ukraine,. Azerbaijan and Moldova and the admission new members, Trends reports quoting Novruz Mammadov, the head of the foreign Relationships Department of the Presidents Apparat, as stating to a special briefing on 20 May. It is necessary to make GUAM efficient and all-sufficient structure, and in this case the expansion of GUAM will be expedient.
Mammadov informed about the Azerbaijani presidents intention to participate in a summit of GUAM in Kiev on 22-23 May, where the organization will be officially renamed Organization for Democracy and Economic Development with an international status. The summit will become a new stage in the consolidation and development of the organization, while the adoption of numerous documents will promote the upgrade of the organization and its legislative base.
Mammadov also announced the agenda of the summit includes an issue on selection of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the head of this organization, the title of position is still to be defined.
