In January to April the agriculture production in Azerbaijan has made up 251m manats, or 2.2% more than last year. However, the unfavorable weather conditions did not allow finishing the spring sowing in time. As of 1 May 2006, the area sown under spring crops reduced 9.9% as compared to similar period of 2005 and comprised 273,400h, including the area sown under grains and legumes made up 13,000h, corns - 14,400h, cotton - 62,200h, tobacco - 1,100h, potato - 61,200h, vegetables - 48,600h, melon and water melons 17,000h, annual planting 4,000h, perennials - 37,800h. The are sown under sugar beans rose 3.6 times as compared to 2005 and made up 5,400h.
The major reason for development of agriculture in Azerbaijan was the increase of the prediction of grains, the Agriculture Ministry urges. In 2005 the volume of grains in the country constituted 2,126,000 tons with the productively ratio of 26.5 metric centners per hectare. To cover the domestic demand for grain by 2015 the production of grains in the country will be increased to 2, 800,000 tons. According to the Russian State Customs Committee, in April Azerbaijan purchased 20,800 tons of grains from this country, entering the top fife of major consumers of this product.
In this period the production of planting grew 3.4% in current prices and cattle breeding 2.1%. Meat production rose 83,900 tons (+1.9%), diary 408,300 tons (+4.2%), eggs 268.8 million (-9.9%).

In this period production prices grew 0.6% and 0,9% - as compared to December. The production prices of grains and fruits dropped 0.6%, potato price rose 0.5%, vegetables and planting 5%.
In his period the cost of production forestry enterprises made up 177,200 manats. The output by fishing enterprises amounted to 37,600 manats, hinting - 1,600 manats.
