Within four years, the World Bank (WB) is planning to put investment totaling $200 mln into infrastructure projects annually within the framework of partnership strategy of WB with Azerbaijan, Peter Thompson, the director of the WB energy and infrastructure sector, told the news-conference.
The common budget of WB strategy is estimated at $1.2 billion. He considers that byincreasing the finance of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, it will be possible to expand the credits for the infrastructure projects.
According to Thompson, the bank is going to allocate investments for the restoration of high ways, upgrade of water supply and sewerage system, clean-up of oil-polluted lands in Apsheron. Besides, WB is considering the opportunities of investing the expansion of the cargo transportation through railways.
Touching on the participation of WB in the opening of rail link through Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku route, Thompson noted that still there is no appeal. In case of appeal, we will asses the economical importance of the project. Without assessment, we cannot speak about the support to the railway project, Thompson added.
