The signing of an Agreement on energy partnership between Azerbaijan and European Union (EU) is expected to take place in November. Azerbaijani ambassador to Beneluyks countries Arif Mammadov exclusively told Trend . According to him, it is not excluded that the document will be signed during the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Brussels.
According to the ambassador, the first stage of consultations on the document project was held on August 29 in Brussels in the level of governmental delegation of Azerbaijan and high-ranking representatives of EU. The negotiations were held under the chairmanship of the chief of EU Energy Department Fabritsio Barbaso, from Azerbaijani side economic development minister Heydar Babayev.
The key moments of the project of Agreement on energy partnership between Azerbaijan and European Union have already been agreed, he said. The consultation will continue
on August 30 in level of working groups.
The diplomat spelled out that tomorrow it is expected to agree up on final moments of the document. Right after this, it will be possible to speak about its signing. It is considered that the document will be signed in November of this year during the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Brussels, the ambassador emphasized.
After Ukraine, Azerbaijan is the second country that is on the eve of signing the document, and taking into consideration the importance of the document, I consider that it will be signed in the highest level, Mammadov underlined.
Besides, the ambassador said that during its present stay in Brussels, the delegation of Azerbaijan will meet with the Deputy Director of the Directorate General for Foreign Relations Fokion Fotiadis, EU Foreign Relations Commissar Venit Ferrero-Valdner.
The composition of Azerbaijani delegation includes Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijani Parliament Valeh Aleskerov, Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev, Minister of Energy and Industry Natig Aliyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, Department Chief of the Executive Office of Azerbaijani President Shahin Aliyev and others.
