EU Allocates a €4.8m Aid to Azerbaijan under TEMPUS Program

Under the TEMPUS European Union has rendered a в'¬4.8m aid to Azerbaijan, Elmar Gasimov, the Azerbaijani Deputy Education Minister, told a news conference dedicated to the third stage of the program.

Attending the conference were representatives from state and public universities of Azerbaijan.

In his remarks Gasimov noted that 23 different projects directed at establishment of curriculums, formation of new bodies and training of personnel on management of universities have been implemented in Azerbaijan in the period of implementation of the program in 1995-2005. The projects were carried out in the Baku State University, the State Oil Academy, the Azerbaijan Technical University, the Nakhchivan State University, universities Khazar and West University.

The key peculiarity of TEMPUS is the distribution of funds in the form of grants.

Gasimov said that the next EU program directed at the development of the education system in Azerbaijan will target exchange of students, Gasimov underscored.

EU representative under TEMPUS program, Klaus Turner, noted that the EU intends to continue co-operation with Azerbaijan in this sphere.
