Azerbaijan`s Islamic Party Demands Apologies from Pope Benedict XVI

Words pronounced by Pope Benedict XVI about Muslim Prophet Muhammad during his speech in the Regensburg University (Bavaria) on September 12 speaks about contradict moments, Trend reports referring to a statement spread by Azerbaijan`s Islamic Party today (September 19).

It is told in the statement that this speech does not conform to the religious leader, his position, and pave the way to the interreligious confrontation. In any case, both his lack of knowledge of Islam and his irresponsible speeches concerning the religion give rise to the entire World Muslims doubts that he is a real spiritual leader

The party considers that at present, when there is a need in the interreligios contacts, the cartoons aimed both against the Islamic religion which its two billion followers, and Allah's last prophet Muhammad are an attempt to harm the existing good relations between the Christian and Islamic World. We are sure that the forces sent against Islam are sent against the humanity, since Allah sent down the Islamic religion to the entire humanity as a peaceful religion, the religion of equity and justice, the statement tells.

The Party considers that Pontiff should quickly realize, admit his flaw, and apology before the Muslims of the World.

Azerbaijan`s Islamic Party with its 50.000 members was established in August 1991. In 1992, the party was registered by the Justice Ministry, and was registered in 1995 on account of its participation in the Parliamentary election campaign.
