Next Conference on Improvement of Law on Freedom of Assembly in Azerbaijan Due in October

The meeting of the representatives of the Azerbaijani Government, the Baku office of the OSCE and experts of the Council of Europe (CE) Venice Commission was the beginning of a long process in this sphere, the head of the Baku Office of the OSCE, Mauricio Pavesi, stated at a news conference organized on 20 September devoted to the results of a conference on the improvement of the Law on Freedom of Assembly in Azerbaijan.

He noted that the conduct of such discussions in its current stage is linked with the discussion of the issue at the Azerbaijani parliament, as well as Azerbaijan's appeal to the CE for the improvement of the law on the Freedom of Assembly. Moreover, the OSCE adopted a document which envisages a new order of freedom of assembly which is referred not only to Azerbaijan.

Pavesi said that in October the meeting will be continued, while it is also planned to organize meetings with the participation of the representatives of the Azerbaijani Government, the CE and OSCE.
