4.525 candidates are expected to participate in the municipal elections to be held on October 6, 2006, Azerbaijan`s central Election Committee (CEC) told Trend today.
According to CEC, the number of constituencies is 82, the number of polling stations - 940, the municipalities - 603, the vacant seats 1.931, the number of voters about 810.000 people. Re-run election is expected to be held in 141 municipalities, by-election - in 37, new election in 405- новые, first election - 22, full-format election in 164.
At the beginning of the election campaign, 4.696 persons nominated their candidacies for election to the municipalities. 4.686 out of the total number of candidates have received subscription lists, and 4.641 submitted their documents. The candidacies of 4.638 have been registered. CEC abandoned the registration to three persons. 101 persons have withdrawn their candidacies. Therefore, at the present moment, 4.525 candidates are participating in the municipal election campaign. 239 out of this number are women.
The forthcoming municipal elections will be observed by 179 observers registered by CEC, and 8.416 local observers in the constituences.
