Azerbaijan Impose Temporary Ban on Poultry and Chicken Food from Iran

The Government of Azerbaijan has imposed a temporary ban on the import of poultry and chicken food into the Country from Iran, Trend reports. Emil Shakhbazov, Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Veterinary Service said this ban was due to a new outbreak of the disease in this Country. However, we should analyze the situation as well from our end. If the outbreak has been detected amongst wild birds, then we should not impose a ban on the whole country, Mr. Shakhbazov stated.

Although the importation of poultry and chicken food has been suspended, the matter will be further considered. Both countries have agreements on mutual export and import of different foods. There are cases when one particular product is banned, but others that are not.

At present, the International Epizootic Bureau Standard is being reviewed. According to the latest review, should a disease be detected in a certain region, a ban will not include the neighbouring region.

According to Mr. Shakhbazov, Azerbaijan has only imposed the ban on Iran.
