Next Consignment Carrying GRTC Armaments Will be Sent to Russia via Azerbaijan

The second additional consignment carrying Russian arms will be sent from Georgia to Russia via the territory of Azerbaijan on 1 December, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia.

The consignment will comprise of 9 carriages, the property of headquarters of Group of Russian Troops in Caucasus (GRTC) that were withdrawn from Tbilisi prior to the appointed time.

According to the recent agreement between the governments of Azerbaijan and Russia, by the end of the current year, 3 additional consignments carrying military armaments of the GRTC will be transported to the Russian Federation via the territory of Azerbaijan. The first consignment via Azerbaijan was transported on 23 November, and the final one (third) has been scheduled for 7 December. In addition, the final part of the GRTC armaments will be sent to Armenia on 14 December.

According to the agreement between Georgia and Russia, the Russian military base in Akhalkalaki should be closed until 1 October 2007 and in Batumi until 1 October 2008.
