It is not the Time to Consider Lingering Conflicts at GUAM Georgian Foreign Minister

The Georgian Foreign Minister, Gela Bezhuashvili, stated at a news conference in Tbilisi on 6 November that it is not the time to discuss GUAM's initiative on lingering conflicts at the UN General Assembly.

He asserted that a meeting of the GUAM Foreign Ministers in Brussels made a resolution to postpone the consideration of the issue at the UN, which was scheduled for 7 December 2006.

The issue is placed on the agenda of the 61st UN General Assembly and will not be excluded until September 2007, as we will submit it for consideration as soon as it completely ready, Bezhuashvili said. GUAM is not only eager to discuss the question, but to also find an effective resolution. Russia is also against the consideration of the issue and tries to organize speeches by leaders of the separatist regions in case the issue is discussed at the UN General Assembly.
