The Head Geologist of the Oil and Gas Production Unit Azneft, Akif Narimanov, exclusively informed Trend that this week the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) confirmed the new program to increase the gas production in its own fields.
According to him, as a result of realization of this project, the gross gas production of SOCAR will be increased by 3-3,5 bln cu.m at the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008.
It will allow us to fully cover the gas demand of Azerbaijan and event to export it, he said.
The program to increase gas production has been confirmed by the President of SOCAR, Rovnak Abdullayev. Increasing the gas production is intended to be achieved at the expense of new gas wells in the fields of Gunashli, Bulla Deniz, 8 March, Bahar and construction of new pipes.
Only in Gunashli, it is intended to put 16 new gas wells into exploitation. Earlier, the number of the wells in this field equaled 4-5.
In 2005, SOCAR produced 3,8 bln cu.m of gas. Over the period of January-October, the production amounted to 3,9 bln cu.m.
