Azerbaijan Does not Purchase Chicken from South Russia & Hungary
The State Veterinary Service of the Azerbaijani Agriculture Service informed Trend that in past Azerbaijan has not purchased chicken products from the Kransnodar Region of Russia, where the bird flu' virus has been found recently.
Azerbaijan purchases Russian chicken products only from the outskirts of Moscow.
As to the importation of meat and eggs from Hungary, where the bird flu' virus has been recently found, the State Veterinary Service said that the purchase of products from this country ceased in August 2006.
At present Azerbaijan is importing chicken products mainly from Turkey and the United States, the same source added.
A monitoring exercise to prevent bird flu' in Azerbaijan, the second in 2007, began in Azerbaijan on January 29th. During the monitoring there are plans to take pathological samples from birds at poultry farms and private economies.
To prevent the infiltration of the bird flu' virus into the country, all frontier veterinary points are operating on medium security, the prohibition on hunting, sale and eating of wild birds in the country still remains in force, as well as the import of poultry and poultry food into the country from those countries where cases of the virus have been detected.
