The Chief of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan, Elchin Guliyev, informed Trend that the number of the SBS employees will be increased by 90%. According to him, last year the SBS signed a number of agreements with the international organizations such as NATO, OSCE, UNO, and Council of Europe.
In addition, in 2006 a State Program for 2006-2010 was signed, which envisages the technical development of the SBS. The first stage of this project has already been completed. Within the program, 70 private cars and arms have been acquired and new houses have been built for the front guarders.
627 people, who are under investigation with various articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, have been detained on the border in 2006. In addition, the board guards have discovered 51,2 km poaching fishing sets.
