Georgian, Tbilisi / corr. Trend N.Kirskhalia / The President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, stated that 2006 was year of geopolitical upheaval with regards to energy in the region.

The President stated that at present, two large-scale projects, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, have been carried out in the region, Trend Special Correspondent in Tbilisi reports. "These two projects have fundamentally changed the geo-political situation and we are becoming part of the European energy security system," Saakashvili said.

"Everything is changing and it is possible to return everything, the recent damage in the south of Russia when electricity was borrowed from us is an example of this, i.e. they recognize our success regarding energy," the President said.

Saakashvili said that he has never liked the expression "transport corridor". "We have people and sources to play a significant role in the region and political determination is required. We should transform Georgia into an effective management etalon in the world," he said.
