New Catholic Church in Baku to Perform First Mass

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aghayeva / Apostolic Nuncio of the Sacred Throne, Claudio Gujeretty, reported on April 3rd that the parishioners of the Catholic Church will be offered the opportunity to attend the first mass in the new Catholic church in Baku on April 29th.

This is not the official opening ceremony of the church. The official opening ceremony will be held with participation of high-rank Vatican officials. The Vatican delegation may visit as early as May or June. The Azerbaijani Government's officials, as well as clerical and social representatives will be invited to the ceremony.

The church has been constructed in the Nobel Avenue at the expense of the Roman Catholic Church. Gujeretty noted that Azerbaijani Catholic community comprises of about 250 people. The number of Catholic foreigners in Azerbaijan is approximately the same.
