Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Alizade / MP Samed Seyidov, Head of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), informed Trend exclusively that the idea of political prisoners has never been considered in the right way with respect to Azerbaijan.
He noted that Azerbaijan has concretely stated its opinion on people presented as political prisoners. The issue concerning the violation of their rights, resolution of problems, their release and humanitarian problems are considered by a working group.
A meeting of the working group was held prior to the issue of a pardon by the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev. It is thought that the pardoned were people who were included in a report of the working group. The next meeting of the working group will be held before the PACE spring session.
MP Seyidov stated that Azerbaijan wants to resolve all problems exiting in the country. "It is not right to exaggerate problems that will damage Azerbaijan's image," he emphasized.
"Moreover, I don't see the necessity to appoint an additional rapporteur on this issue and the work done in Azerbaijan in this direction also testifies to it," he added.
