Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Elchin Guliyev, the head of the State Frontier Service, reported on 12 April that the Service neutralized eighteen criminal groups due to the criminal investigation operations carried out during the last two years.
Guliyev noted that eight of them were neutralized on the Azerbaijan-Iran border, eight on the border with Georgia, and two in the Caspian Sea. The criminals were engaged in trafficking of migrants and falsification of documents.
According to Guliyev, seventy-seven Azerbaijani and twenty-one foreign ships were examined by the frontier guards in 2006. They detained thirty ships and 108 boats due to trespassing in Azerbaijani waters.
