Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend E.Huseynli / Miguel Angel Moratinos, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Spanish Foreign Minister, stated in talks with journalists in Baku on 5 June that OSCE is prepared to assist Azerbaijan in improving the media situation and is willing to contribute towards normalizing the situation in the country.
The statement was made at the end of his meeting with representatives of the active political parties in Azerbaijan, which focused on the state of the media. "A democratic country should be based on the freedom of word and pluralism. OSCE is eager to assist in improving the situation and contribute to normalizing the situation in the country," he said.
Moratinos said that in this respect the OSCE representative in Azerbaijan will present several projects for the formation of a new generation of journalists in the country. "The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan soon and we will make every effort to guarantee democracy and transparency during the polls. OSCE has the experience of arranging democratic elections and is prepared to utilize it in favor of Azerbaijan," he stated.
