Azerbaijan Plays Important Role in Struggle against Human Trafficking: Deputy of Interior Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Azerbaijan plays an important role in the struggle against human trafficking.

Oruj Zalov, the Azerbaijani deputy Interior Minister, stated on 18 June that measures have been implemented by the Azerbaijani Government in the struggle against human trafficking, positively assessed by the United States.

The abundant facts of trafficking were revealed as a result of measures taken by a specialized body of the country.

"Some 78 facts cases investigated in 2006 and in the first quarter of 2007 some 20 or 25 cases. The participators of these crimes were punished under legislation," Zalov said.

Azerbaijan was pointed out as a source and transit country of trafficking in a report by the United States on the struggle against human trafficking in the world for 2006.

The deputy noted that the illegal flow of immigrants in the country and people residing in the territory of Azerbaijan without registration are deported within the framework of legislation.
