Union of Editors-in-Chief of Azerbaijan Postpones Demonstration
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The demonstration of Union of Editors-in-Chief was postponed again according to the decision made by the organizers at the meeting.
The demonstration is being held to protest the decision of the Azerbaijani Government to increase prices. The Union of Editors-in-Chief was planning to direct the gathering from Hazi Aslanov metro station to the square in front of the Oil Refinery. The Executive Power, however, only consented to the protest going from Hazi Aslanov Metro Station to Ukrainian Square.
The organizers of the demonstration of journalists also faced the same situation. The Executive Power also only okayed their demonstration as long as it was routed from Hazi Aslanov metro station to Ukrainian square. The protest's organizers refused to rally according to the Executive Power's designated route and postponed their demonstration. Discussions are expected to be held regarding holding unofficial protests. A number of opposition and independent newspapers and journalists are protesting against the current pressure they are facing in Azerbaijan.
