Number of Serving Personnel of Russian-leased Azerbaijan Gabala Radar Station May not exceed 1500

Trend E.Huseynov / The Head of the Russian-leased Azerbaijan Gabala Radar Station is grateful to the administration of Gabala district for the assistance in resolving social-domestic problems. "We have no problems in this regard," said the representative of the Command of the Cosmic Troops of Russia, General-Mayor, Alexander Yakushin, on 30 June while welcoming the mission of the international journalists in Gabala Radar Station.

He stressed that according to the agreement signed in Moscow between Azerbaijan and Russia in 2002 with regards to the status and using principles of the Gabala Radar Station, the Defense Ministry of Russia leases 260 ha land for these purposes. According to the agreement, the number of the serving personnel of the Station may not exceed 1500. Presently the number of the personnel equals nearly 1000 people (Russian citizens). In addition, Yakushin said that Gabala Radar Station has been divided into three zones. The first dwelling zone includes 11 houses, including hotel, dormitory, kindergarten and schools. The second administrative zone includes headquarter, barracks and canteen. The third zone is technological position of the Station.
