Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / Illegal transportation in Azerbaijan increased by 58% in the first quarter of 2007 as compared to the same period in 2006.
The Azerbaijani Interior Ministry has reported that 138 crimes, linked with human trafficking were registered in Azerbaijan over six months of 2007 as compared to 87 in 2006.
Some 140 people were made answerable for trafficking in the first quarter of 2007. The number of such crimes against women increased by 84.6%, 47.1% of crimes were committed by women.
Illegal drug trafficking increased by 4.8%. Some 520 out of 1,465 crimes were committed with the purpose of further sale. Some 218kg of drug was seized.
