Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr D. Khatynoghlu / Some of the Iranian students who took part in demonstrations on 9 July and were detained on the grounds of treason have been released. The fate of the rest of the students is unknown.

"The exact number of students jailed is not available," stated the Iranian human rights activist, Zahra Erfani who is living in Sweden.

The activists of the Tehkim-Vahdat student organization were jailed for 31 days and released on bail on 2 August. One of the activists of Mujtaba Bayat youth organization noted in his interview with IRNA news agency that he had no complaints about the treatment at the prison. According to Amir Kabir News Agency, Majid Tavakkul, Ahmad Gasabban, and Ehsan Mansuri underwent cruel moral and physical torture in the prison and even attempted to commit suicide.

Erfani reported from Stockholm that the participants of the demonstration in front of the Tahkim-Vahdat organization's office were detained by the investigation service and underwent cruel physical and psychological pressure for 31 days. The students were released after applications and letters were sent by them to Iranian officials.

"Despite the promises of Iranian officials to review the sentence, Jafar Kiyani was stoned. That has made us have a good think of the fate of another political prisoner Meysam Lutfi," the human rights activist said.

" Karaj Court found Jafar Kiyani guilty of being married illegally. He was secretly stoned in Agchala village of Takistan province. Iranian officials and Justice Minister Mr. Shahrudi in particular decided to review the sentence. Kiyani's wife and 4-year old child are jailed in the Karaj prison. Their 14-year son is free. The judge himself attended the execution," Erfani said.

Erfani reported that nobody was informed of the state of Meysam Lutfi. Two weeks ago his mother was allowed to meet with him in prison. Meysam told his mother that 8 people had died from tuberculosis, famine and torture in Kahrizak prison, according to Erfani.

The human rights activist has neither the list of the inmates jailed in Iranian prisons, nor the information on their fate.
