Identities Unknown of Three Bodies Pulled from Ruins of 16-storey Building in Baku - updated

Alizadeh / The identities of three bodies pulled out from the wreckage of the 16-storey building, which collapsed in Baku on 28 August, is still not identified, the Deputy Emergency Situations Minister, Faig Taghyzadeh, reported on 30 August. The death toll has reached 12.

According to him, the identification process has proved difficult due to the extent of the injuries sustained. Taghyzadeh believes that the possibility that there are still people alive under the wreckage is not high. The Ministry intends to utilise more technology in the search.

A building which was under construction by Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at 17:00 hours. The President of the company Mitefekkir Ali Muradov, who carried out the construction, including other senior company officials have been arrested.

The Azerbaijan Emergency Situation Ministry and Executive Administration of Baku City has begun inspections on the 3 buildings constructed by Mutaffakir company, Samad Islamov, the deputy head of Executive Administration of Yasamal district of Baku, said on 30 August. They are situated at the intersection of Nakjhchivan and Mukhtarov streets close to the collapsed building, the representative of the Executive Administration said. He did not state the exact address.

Buildings being constructed by Athena MMTK which are situated near the collapsed building are also being inspected.
