Azerbaijan, Baku /corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The idea of a unified candidate from the opposition party for the forthcoming presidential elections, will not be favored by the left wing, Tahib Abbasli, the chairman of Islamic Democratic Party (IDP), said on 30 August.
The issue of a unified candidate from the opposition is realized through tradition, but the intentions of the opposition party are mere words. Abbasli thinks that this idea can do more harm rather good. The proposal for a unified candidate is an excellent idea, but the good intentions of the Azerbaijani opposition are not realized. "Opposition leaders are unwilling to yield others and each of them is taking care of their own interests. This situation makes it impossible to nominate a unified opposition candidate," said Abbasli.
According to the opposition leader, opposition can be successful in elections without following tradition. In comparison to the current President, the opposition has been separated from the people.
IDP is an opposition party with a religious strategy.
