D.Khatinoglu / Most people executed in Iran as punishment for various political crimes were political activists, according to Mina Ahadi, an international human rights activist. Twenty-one of those executed were political activists, said Ahadi, who is Iranian but lives in Germany chairing the Anti-Torture Organization.
On 5 September alone, twenty-one people were executed in Horasan and Shiraz City of Iran.
The executed persons were accused of hooliganism and arousing hostility. About 450 people were hanged in Iran within the last two years, the German 'Frankforter Alegmayne' publication reported. Several persons were executed for hooliganism and arousing hostility in the latest months by the Iranian Government, Mina Ahadi told Trend Agency by telephone from Frankfurt on 6 September. Of the people hanged in Iran in 1988, 1,000 were done so with similar accusations. There is no exact information about the crimes these executed people committed. The Iranian Government hangs criminals before the eyes of the public. The world's community demonstrates against these mass executions carried out by the Iranian Government. People sentenced to execution have appealed to the international human rights activists demanding that the Iranian Government be prevented from executing tem, Mina said.
Protests will be held in twelve cities of the world against the executions in Iran.
A press- conference was held in Frankfurt due to this fact by the Anti-Death Penalty Campaign and International Human Rights Committee. Mohammad Mostafaee, an Iranian attorney, was invited to take part at the conference. However, the attorney could not arrive to Frankfurt. Yesterday we met with the Foreign Minister of Sweden and discussed the latest events occurring in Iran, Mina said.
