Huseynli / There are no restrictions in Azerbaijan regarding opening of private universities and if necessary the Education Ministry will put the issue for discussion, the head of Education Ministry's Executive Administration, Ilham Pirmammadov, said on 12 September.
According to him, if a university corresponds to the Education Ministry's standards, it will be issued a license. "The foundation, quality of new private university cannot be lower then of the state universities," he noted.
There are over 10 private universities. Education Ministry repeatedly stated it was not satisfied with education quality in several of them.
According to Pirmammadov, admission to private universities without test exams has been completely removed. However, very often students are illegally transmitted to the second or third year. The Ministry will commence monitoring exercises in private universities in autumn in order to stop such occasions.
