Prosecutor Demands 10-year Imprisonment for Editor-in-Chief

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Javadova, E. Huseynli / The trial of Eynulla Fatullayev, the editor-in-chief of the Realny Azerbaijan and Gundalik Azerbaijan newspapers continued at the Azerbaijani Court of Serious Crimes on 26 October. The prosecutor demanded Fatullayev be sentenced to ten years of imprisonment.

Fatullayev is accused in accordance with Articles 214.1 (terrorism threat) and 283.2.2 (abuse of service powers to provoke social, national, racial, or religious hostility) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He does not agree with the accusations and states his arrest is politically motivated.

The next hearing on Fatullayev will take place on 29 October, where the jailed journalist will make his final statement.
