( AFP )- Thriller writer Ken Follett, whose historical novel "The Pillars of the Earth" was a top favourite in Spain for two decades, has hit the jackpot again with the sequel, media reports said Saturday.
The Spanish translation of "World Without End" sold out within hours of a record 525,000 copies being put on sale Friday, the reports said. Daily El Mundo said publishers Mondadori had ordered a rush reprint of 175,000 more.
The publishers said the number of launch copies sold in Spanish bookstores in a single day was unprecedented, beating even the Harry Potter series.
Follett's earlier book was described as the novel most read by Spaniards for the past 20 years, with more than 5.5 million copies sold.
