Increase of Interest in Islam in Azerbaijan not to be Considered as Fundamentalism – Caucasus Muslims Clerical Port Chairman

I.Gasimli, E.Huseynli / The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Port (CMCP) considers the relevant prevention of the activity of the radical religious forces in Azerbaijan. "There has been no danger of the Islam against population and it should not be evaluated as fundamentalism. Killer has no religion," SheikhulIslam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Clerical Port, said on 10 January. According to Pashazadeh, increase in the number of people, who adhere to the Islam postulates, was not a sign of fundamentalism. "I do not agree with those who refer fundamentalism to the Islam. Nobody can identify Islam with the terror," Pashazadeh said.

Commenting the influence of the Iranian Special Services on Azerbaijan, Pashazadeh stated that the progress of the interests of country in the neighbourhood country is a natural factor. " Iran is bordering with Azerbaijan. A lot of Azerbaijani reside in Iran. There is a wide cooperation between the countries. Therefore, we should take into consideration all these factors before expressing any position towards Iran," he noted.

Pashazadeh said that the Azerbaijani State Commission on the Religious Issues of the country carries out work among prisoners and militaries, in order to prevent the spread of religious radicalism in the military units. The Azerbaijani National Security Ministry spread information about neutralization of the groups, which were secretly cooperating with the SEPAH Islamic Revolution's Guards (IRG) in Azerbaijan in December 2007. The information stated that Said Dadashbayli and his group visited Gum, Teheran, Resht and Meshed cities of Iran, in 2005 and 2006. The groups get familiar with the officials of special services of the country and expressed their solidarity necessity to contradict the United States, Israel and the other west countries, to prevent the European integration of Azerbaijan, hold struggle in order to establish shariat rules in the country. The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed protest against the information spread by the Azerbaijani National Defense Ministry and called it false.
