Azerbaijani Former Health Minister not Attends at Court Trial

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 January / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Ali Insanov, the former Health Minister of Azerbaijan, was not brought to the court trial held on 22 January.

The court trial on the lawsuit of the former Health Minister against the Azerbaijani National Science Academy (NASA) was launched in the Sabail District Court of Baku.

The former Minister, excluded from NASA, demands to make answerable NASA and recognition invalid the protocol and decision has been taken by NASA from 4 May in the Heinous Crime Court, as well as the letter of Heinous Crime Court from 30 April, and pay of AZN 28mln to the Science-Research Institute of Lung Disease.

Agaveis Shahverdi, Insanov's attorney, submitted a petition to postpone the process in order the accuser may attend at the court process. Fuad Ismaylov, the judge of the Sabail District Court, did not satisfy the petition taking into consideration that Insanov's attorney attended at the process.

During the court trial in the Sabail District Court on 7 January the petition brought by Insanov's attorney was satisfied. The Court informed that the decision and date hade been submitted to the leadership of prison 10, where Insanov serves his sentence.

The process has been continued.

Insanov was detained in October, 2005. He was accused of attempting a coup d'etat and causing mass riots. By the decision made by the Azerbaijani Court on Heinous Crimes dated 20 April, Ali Insanov was found guilty in appropriation of property and abuse of power and sentenced to 11years imprisonment. Medical examinations on him have proved that he suffers from a vertebral hernia.
